The Richmond Volleyball Club, a private, non- profit 501c(3) organization, was founded in 1981 when two area leagues, TRAVL and Fan League, merged and opened what was our first location (RVC East) at 3300 West Marshall Street in Richmond, Virginia. The nightly leagues consisted of men’s, women’s and co-ed teams at various levels and was open only to adults.

The popularity of league play at RVC saw a huge spike during the 1980’s, resulting in a much needed expansion. In addition to the night leagues, RVC began a junior volleyball program in 1990.  In the fall of 1991, RVC West, with six courts at 1907 Westmoreland Street, opened its doors to the membership. These two locations, housing a total of ten courts, served RVC until January, 2010. After a long search for the right location, the Board of Directors purchased and renovated RVC’s largest home at 2921 Byrdhill Road in Henrico County. The original location (RVC East) was sold, but RVC West is still in use.

The Byrdhill location (RVC-Byrdhill) boasts 12 indoor courts, more than 70,000 sq. feet, state of the art heating and air conditioning and reflective lighting.  RVC North includes a concession area, sports shop and space for outdoor courts, making Richmond Volleyball Club one of the largest volleyball-dedicated facilities in the world.

In March 2018, RVC expanded it’s operations with a 50, 000 sq. ft. facility which houses 8 courts and observation mezzanine, in partnership with Chesterfield Parks & Recreation. Located at the new Stonebridge Shopping Center, 200 Karl Linn Drive in Chesterfield County, (RVC Stonebridge) it’s conveniently surrounded by shops and restaurants as well as easy access to the interstate. Once the new facility is fully operational, the Westmorland gym will be closed.

Currently, RVC has nearly 3,500 active members and up to 240 teams participating in evening recreational leagues from Sunday through Friday.  RVC also supports 40 USAV and recreational juniors teams annually. The club hosts many adult and juniors tournaments. In addition, RVC sponsors outdoor tournaments, skills clinics, referee training, and other special events related to the promotion of volleyball…the sport for a lifetime.
