The Monument City Classic is a “Stay and Play” Event

Welcome and thank you for considering taking part in the 14th Annual Monument City Classic Girls Volleyball Tournament presented by Union Bank & Trust. As the largest community bank based solely in Virginia, Union Bank & Trust actively supports efforts to make our communities vibrant.

The tournament will be held January 13 – 15, 2018 in the the Greater Richmond Convention Center and the Richmond Volleyball Club – Byrdhill. All teams will compete at the GRCC and at RVC – Byrdhill.  No division will play at RVC – Byrdhill more than once.  Spectator admission will be $25 in advance for the event.  Admission at the door will be $30 for the event or $15 per day.

We will offer Open Divisions for the 14’s – 18’s, Club divisions for the 12’s – 18’s, and Select Division for 15’s and 16’s. There will be twenty four teams accepted in 14’s, 15 Open, 16 Open, 17’s divisions (format), thirty two teams in the 18 Open, 16 Club, 15 Club and 13 Club divisions,  (format), nine in the 12 and 18 Club. sixteen in the 14’s, 15’s, and 16’s Select divisions.  Eight teams in the 12 and under division (format).

Divisions are divided into the following levels:

Select: Less experienced teams wanting a team building experience yet a competitive level to compete.

Club: More experienced teams that want a higher level of competition but may not be as physical as other teams in their age group.

Open: Most competitive level for teams who are performing at the top of their age group.

 

HISTORY

Last year we had 295 teams compete over the holiday weekend.  Early registration is highly recommended.

 

 

  • CHECK IN

    The team check in process will be in two different locations beginning on Friday from 4:00 pm until 7:00pm in Dick’s Sporting Goods- Short Pump Town Center; 11800 West Broad Street; Henrico, VA 23233. There should be a greeter at the door to direct you to the registration table.

    After 7:00pm, check in will be in hall B of the convention center and will conclude at 10:30pm. Entry into the convention center should be made through the doors on the corner of 3rd and Marshall Streets. Please make every effort to check-in on Friday night. Things are very hectic Saturday morning with the staff preparing for play to begin. Check in on Saturday will be in the registration lobby from 7:00am until 11:00am at the Greater Richmond Convention Center or the RVC office (First brick building on the right when you enter parking lot).

    The team representative will need to bring the “Roster Form” printed from Sportwrench with them. The form states that you will have the team’s ‘Medical Release” form(s) in your possession during the event. A club representative may check in their entire club. At that time you will receive wrist bands for the athletes and staff. Athletes and staff will be required to wear a wrist band to gain entrance into the Greater Richmond Convention Center.

    COACHES’ MEETING

    We are pleased to announce that there is not a Coaches’ Meeting. We will notify you if there are any changes to the playing format.

    FORMAT

    Format for the Monument City Classic will be wave play. For divisions that are full, matches will play a best of three to 25 with any third games to 15. Full Schedules can be found at www.Sportwrench.com

  • This year, admission wristbands for spectators will be available through advance, online purchase or at the door. Beginning December 30, advance purchase wristbands will be available for $25 (which includes processing fee) through sportwrench.com. Spectator admission wristbands purchased on-site will be $30 for the event or $15 per day for either location.

    **Children 6 and under will get a FREE wristband at Ticket Purchase counter.  Children must be present to get the wristband.  Athletes on a Team Roster will receive a wristband from their Coach after team check in.**

    AVOID THE LONG LINES ON SATURDAY!  Spectator admission wristbands that are purchased in advance will be available for pick up at  Dick’s Sporting Goods- Short Pump Town Center on Friday from 4:00pm until 7:00pm. There will be a greeter at the door who will direct you to the registration table. You can also pick them up in the lobby of the downtown Marriott from 5:00pm – 9:00pm on Friday.  You must have your purchase confirmation, or QR code, with you to receive your wristbands. On Saturday, wristband sales will begin at the Greater Richmond Convention Center and the Richmond Volleyball Club – Byrdhill at 7:00am.

  • The tournament is a “Stay and Play” event. This requires all teams located outside of a 50 mile radius of Richmond, VA to stay at the designated hotels with reservations made through EM2. This program helps keep team costs down with substantial savings on room rates, hotel amenities and discounts on dining while still providing unique experiences throughout the tournament.

    All room reservations will be handled through EM2. For hotel reservations, you may use the links below for online booking or call 1-855-217-4444, M-F 8:00 am-5:00 pm Central Time.  Questions can be emailed to richmondvbchousing@em2sports.com. All reservations must be associated with an attending club and team.

    Location
    The Greater Richmond Convention Center parking facility is located at the corner of 3rd Street and Marshall Street, and is conveniently connected to the Convention Center via an enclosed skywalk for your comfort.

    I-95 North Bound:
    Exit #74C Medical College of Virginia stay to the left and take Broad Street/State Capitol/Coliseum exit. Go west on Broad Street to North 3rd Street. Turn right onto 3rd Street. Travel ¼ of a block, turn right into the Greater Richmond Convention Center’s Parking Deck.

    I-95 South/64 East Bound:
    Exit I-95 to the exit #75 I-64 East/3rd Street. Bear right for 3rd Street. (Do not go straight on the junction, it will take you to I-64 East). Travel ahead to 3rd and Marshall streets. The Greater Richmond Center Parking Deck will be on the left.

    I-64 West Bound (from Airport):
    Exit #190 5th Street exit. Proceed to 5th and Jackson streets. Turn right onto Jackson Street and proceed to 3rd Street. Turn left onto 3rd Street. Travel three blocks to 3rd and Marshall streets and turn left into the Greater Richmond Convention Center’s Parking Deck.

    College Coaches

    University Athlete will be providing mobile software (UAR) with rosters and schedules for the Boys’ East Coast Championships. Please use your UA purchase page to obtain the PDA Package for $25, which will be available 1-2 weeks prior to event.   • We will be holding auditions for the singing of the National Anthem for the 2018 Monument City Classic Championships. Auditions will be held from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm, Friday, January 12th, in the Greater Richmond Convention Center at the Championship Desk.

    We have 5 performing time slots available for the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Preference is given to players but the audition is open to anyone. Single person, duet, or groups are welcome.

    If you are unable to audition Friday evening, you may send a video or YouTube link of a recent performance of the National Anthem (within the last year) no later than midnight, THURSDAY, January 11th. If sending a video or link please include the Audition Form with as much information that is known at the time of submission (playing venue, am/pm wave etc…) to Skip Weston. We will have paper copies of the Audition Form available at the Championship Desk on Friday evening for individuals auditioning live.

    PLEASE NOTEwe will be contacting those selected to perform Saturday morning, between 10 pm and 10:30 pm on Friday night. Please include a phone number of someone who is available to receive phone calls late Friday night for confirmation. All other selections will be notified Saturday morning.
