Private Instruction

In order to help players learn and improve skills, Richmond Volleyball Club is dedicated to offering quality instruction for players 12 and up.  Individual and group instruction focus on a variety of skills, including passing, setting, hitting, blocking and serving. With a wealth of coaching experience at all levels, our coaching staff is able to provide instruction in an individual or group setting on all aspects of volleyball.

To schedule a lesson with an instructor with availability, login to (or create) an account in Esoft (separate then your RVC account) and click the time slot you wish to reserve.

NOTE: Lessons must be booked at least 24 hours in advance. Esoft will not allow for same day reservations.

Payment is due at the time of the lesson. The RVC office will accept cash, check (made payable to RVC), or credit card. Lessons are scheduled first-come, first-serve and availability will change based on coaches schedules.

Cancellation Policy

Once a Private Instruction has been arranged, 24 hours notice is required for cancellation.  Failure to do so obligates customer to all lesson and court fees.

  • Sam Albus

    Adult Clinics and Starter League Coach at RVC
    Athlete with professional experience looking to lead young players by example.
    Sam recently returned home from playing professionally in the German Bundesliga. He knows what it takes to play volleyball at the next level and wants to share his knowledge to help players grow. While overseas, Sam coached two co-ed youth teams  ages 11-17, one of which won its league championship and loves leading young players by example. Currently, Sam coaches the adult clinics and weekly Starter League at RVC.

  • Wes Bolyard

    Boys 16-2 Head Coach at RVC 

    After graduating from Prince George High School where he played as a setter for three years, Wes joined their coaching team for the next two years as the JV Boys Head Coach and Varsity Boys Assistant Coach. He then played beach volleyball for two years at University of Virginia as a setter and opposite hitter. After graduating, Wes moved back to the Richmond area where he is now the Head Coach for both the JV and Varsity Boys Volleyball Teams at Maggie Walker Governor’s School.

    For the fall, Wes will only be doing lessons on weekends at the Byrdhill Facility.

  • Chris Byham

    Juniors Programs Manager at RVC

    Chris brings over 7 years experience coaching volleyball to RVC. He started his coaching career as the Mid-Coast Volleyball Club Head Coach back in 2011, and from there has served as the Boys Varsity Head Coach and Girls JV Head Coach at Paso Robles High School for 3 years, and then the 805 Elite Volleyball Club Head Coach for 2 years. Chris then spent some time working at the collegiate level as an Assistant at the University of California at Riverside and then at Cal Ply San Luis Obispo for 3 years. Currently, he works as the Juniors Technical Manager at RVC, while also working as the the USA Volleyball High Performance Associate Head Coach, and Youth Continental Team Assistant.

  • Kelly Fraser

    Boys 18-1 Assistant Coach at RVC 

    Kelly played all four years at James Madison University as a starting libero and has since coached two years at Trinity High School as an Assistant Varsity Coach. Since diving into the sport in 2006, he has competed in beach, grass, and indoor tournaments accumulating a strong foundation of all fundamentals to go along with his libero expertise; he helped lead both JMU and an RVC Men’s team towards their best nationals finishes to date. Currently, he is a top rated referee at RVC, coaches volleyball,  and consistently competes as a player.

    Kelly specializes in honing the skills of liberos/DS but trains all athletes in all facets of the game including sharing integral, game situation knowledge; maximizing athletic performance and injury prevention is a top priority.   • Cat Lester

    Setting specialist with juniors program at RVC

    Now in her third year as part of the RVC family, Cat Lester has helped middle school, high school, college, and adult players elevate their game to the next level through personalized training aimed at drawing the best out of every athlete. Cat was a four-year starter at VCU who still holds the school’s single season record for assists and assists per set.  Cat was the JV and Varsity head coach at the Steward School for three seasons and is currently in her third season as an assistant coach at Lee Davis High School. Cat stays active as a player, competing regularly in regional and national tournaments including being named MVP, leading her team to the Women’s A division title at the 2016 USAV Adult National Championships. She offers specialized setter training which provides setters with advanced skills and game knowledge. A regular attendee of top coaching clinics, Cat’s wealth of knowledge, experience, and intensity can assist players at every position achieve their volleyball goals. 

    Cat will be taking a break from coaching private lessons for November and December and will return in January.

  • Andre Spencer

    Board Member at RVC

    Andre spent 4 years as an Assistant Coach for VCU women’s volleyball before becoming one of the original coaches for RVC juniors travel program back when it started in 1994. During his time with RVC juniors, Andre coaches various ages and levels including National level teams. He then continued his volleyball career through refereeing Women’s Division I, II, III, Men’s Division I, and USA volleyball. Currently, Andre coaches at RVC in our City League and is starting his fourth year as the Head Coach for Saint Gertrude’s Varsity Girls.

  • Christine Suders

    Mentor Coach for Junior Travel at RVC

    Christine has eleven years of coaching experience, most of them as the Assistant Coach for RVC’s 16 Nationals team. She currently serves as a mentor coach at RVC for the Junior Travel program. After a high school career as a four-year starting setter at Jamestown High School, including being honored as Region Player of the Year and First Team All State her senior season, she played collegiately at Southwestern Assemblies of God University as an outside hitter and defensive specialist, Christine finished her college career at Eastern Mennonite University as their starting setter, where despite only playing two seasons, she is currently ranks in the top five for career assists and was voted EMU’s MVP her senior season.

    Christine works with all athletes, from beginners to advanced, and especially enjoys teaching beginning players the fundamentals of the game, and hopes to pass on to every player she coaches a love for the sport that has brought her so much joy for over twenty years.

  • Leslie Walters

    Girls 18 National Assistant Coach at RVC 

    Leslie played four years at the University of Mary Washington and has six years of indoor volleyball coaching experience, including Core Fredericksburg 18s Platinum team this past club season.  She specialize in hitting, passing, defense, and serving and works with all athletes.

  • Skip_Weston Skip Weston

    Director of Programs and Facilities at RVC
    Skip coached girls volleyball at Mills E. Godwin High School from 1984-2004, compiling an amazing record of 324-25. They won 15 district titles, 11 region championships and 2 state crowns (with 7 final four appearances). Currently, he is the Head Coach for the Varsity Girls team at St. Catherine’s School.
